A small range of children’s equipment is on permanent display including bathing and toileting, car seats, supportive seating and buggies. We arrange to have additional equipment brought to the Centre for assessments so we can demonstrate the different models and sizes available.
We have an excellent relationship with a wide range of children’s equipment companies so we can ensure that we are able to meet the needs of you and your child and give you an informed choice.
The list of assessments we offer includes:
- Beds and cots
- Manual wheelchairs
- Powered wheelchairs
- Car seats
- Passenger access
- Kitchen equipment
Following a discussion with yourself and/or the referring professional, an appointment will be made for your child at the Centre. Before the Assessment is booked it will have to be authorized by an Occupational Therapist to ensure we have the correct equipment for the day of the Assessment.
What does an Assessment consist of?
Our Occupational Therapists will complete an initial interview, taking details about your child's medical condition, mobility, home situation and the equipment that you would like to try. You will have an opportunity to try the particular equipment and the Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant will provide advice and information about the equipment and whether it will be suitable for your long term needs.
After an Assessment?
Each assessment is different. However, you will usually receive advice and information on the equipment that you tried and a list of reputable retailers and funding sources. The Occupational Therapist may also write a report based on the assessment.
