Julia Love RGN ONC, Advanced Member of National Back Exchange
Nurse and Manual Handling Practitioner
Julia initially trained as an orthopaedic nurse before qualifying as a Registered General Nurse at Guy’s Hospital in 1985, quickly becoming the manual handling trainer for students, care assistants and qualified staff. This role developed and Julia became freelance, delivering manual handling training to a wide variety of staff in health, social care and education.
Julia was a chapter author and co-editor of the Handling of People, 6th Edition and was a co-writer of the NBE leaflets about Safer Hoisting. She delivers training at both a basic level and to trainers and undertakes individual risk assessments for a Case Management company, delivering bespoke training for clients with complex handling issues.
Julia is an active member of her local National Back Exchange group and after 4 years as Chair of Yorkshire group, Julia then joined the National Executive Committee of NBE in as a Regional Officer, then as National Secretary. Just one year later, she was elected unopposed to the position of Chair of the NBE, a post she held for 3 years until 2014.
Simon Love, MCSP, HPCP, Advanced Member of National Back Exchange
Physiotherapist and Manual Handling Practitioner
Simon qualified as a physiotherapist and then joined the Royal Army Medical Corps working in Woolwich and Hong Kong. When he left the army in 1991, he founded LPS Training and Consultancy Ltd with Julia Love, designing and delivering flexible and varied training in manual handling. Some of the bespoke training has included study days for specialist interest groups including operating department staff and healthcare professionals dealing with bariatric clients.
Simon has been a member of the National Back Exchange (NBE) since 2000 and has been an active member of the Yorkshire Branch since then. He joined the NBE Theatre Special Interest Group in 2003 and has delivered a variety of conference presentations and workshops on subjects relating to manual handling, at a number of national conferences.
Simon has been the Chairman of the Yorkshire group of NBE for the past 5 years, joined the National Executive of National Back exchange as a Regional Officer, before recently taking on the role of Membership Secretary.
